Zermatt provides a fantastic choice of high quality dining options, set against a beautiful background of the Matterhorn and surrounding mountains.

You’ll be spoilt for choice by the outstanding selection of restaurants in Zermatt, both on the mountain and in the town. There are 56 mountain restaurants, many of which are reachable by foot. Restaurants range from the chalet-style and rustic types, to world-famous dining experiences.

These are our top picks:

Findlerhof
This family-run and friendly restaurant is one of a collection on the southwest-facing slope of the Matterhorn. Offering unforgettable panoramic views, this half-hidden gem at the bottom of Findeln serves up traditional Swiss cooking, modern Italian dishes and a superb range of salads.

Stafelalp
Looking more like a large conservatory, this top-notch restaurant has swiftly made its way into the top 10. On hot, sunny days, you can relax in the hot tub on the sun terrace and then enjoy fine cuisine in the stylish chalet. New renovations include a bright, modern wing and sheepskin seats and in the spring, diners are treated to live music. We recommend one of the many lamb specialties or the Hot Stone Bison Rib-eye.

Zum See
This famous mountain restaurant is the epitome of traditional Zermatt charm, with a menu that is dominated by Swiss cuisine, including homemade pasta dishes, veal, calves liver and lamb specialties. This 17th century building is located next door to a chapel; it’s so authentic that the walls aren’t straight! The log-fired stove that heats the dining room is as old as the building itself.

Chez Vrony
This restaurant has been in the family for over 100 years, offering unparalleled views of the Matterhorn…..and plenty of opportunity for Marmotte spotting from the terrace in the day time! It’s very smart, with a timeless wooden interior, maintaining its character despite new furnishings. From a traditional recipe, to a delicious classic and speciality dishes prepared with a touch of international flair.

Snowboat
Located in the centre of town, beside the River Vispa. This enchanting boat-shaped restaurant is funky and lively but at the same time offers a comfortable and laid back ambience. Serving up an a la carte menu, bar snacks and exquisite cocktails, all of which you can enjoy in the sunshine on the roof terrace or in the bar and restaurant area.

Heimberg
Christian Geisler and his skilled team will welcome you with a high-flying, Michelin-starred alpine menu. His imaginative approach and ‘surprise Alpine dining’ is like no other, taking you on an astonishing gastronomic journey.
